Windows Phone

We all love Windows on our computers. Whenever there is an update to Windows technology, we want it. Some versions have been less successful than others, but navigating the internet would not be the same without Windows. Now we can have a Windows phone. The newest release will be available for the holidays. The Windows Phone 7 Series incorporates everything you love about Windows 7 for your PC into this phone.

The interface is like no other phone on the market. The screen is filled with an oversized set of flat squares in bright primary colors. The text is big and the screen has a modern playful look. The graphics are spectacular. The start screen features live tiles that are constantly updated. You can get news, weather, or traffic as it happens. If you choose you can pin a person to your start screen and get updated status and photos of that person all during the day.

The phone is centered on a set of hubs; people, pictures, games, music, video, marketplace and office. You can access not only your contacts but Facebook and MySpace. Music and video is Zune’s HD software tucked inside the phone. If you are a gamer, you will be thrilled to know that X-Box Live is right there on your phone and your scores can be tied to your X-Box at home.

The browser is Internet Explorer and while not as fast as Mobile Safari, it has multiple browser windows. The Outlook e-mail app is outstanding. The text is large, bright, and very easy to read. The Marketplace is where you can purchase apps. The old apps from Windows Mobile will not work on the new Windows Phone 7. Bing and Bing maps are built into the phone. Microsoft office is connected to Cloud for OTA syncing and the business users will be happy to see all they can do with it.

The same people who dominate desktops are now in a three way competition for mobile phones. Microsoft, Google and Apple are the three top runners. Microsoft has always kind of taken its time in getting new things on the market, but they do it right. All indications are that Windows Mobile is dead and should be buried and replaced by Windows Phone 7. If you’re looking for the latest and the greatest in mobile phones, this one will on the market before you know it.
