Phone Shops
Some of us still like to do business face to face. We want to talk to a real person about the product we are purchasing instead of a disembodied computer voice on the phone. We like to actually see and touch what we are buying before we make the decision. If there happens to be a problem with the product after we buy it, we want to take it back to the source and get the problem resolved. Online shopping is great and so convenient, but sometimes we need personal attention. For that reason there are still phone shops from major manufacturers and cell phone networks.
I grew up in a small town where personal service was a major perk. The owners wanted your continued business and problems were resolved promptly. This is not he case today. I spent several hours on the phone with Verizon not long ago trying to explain something that could have been resolved in five minutes if only I could talk to a live person and not go through a series of computer prompts only to reach someone who was very polite, but had no idea what to do about the product I had purchased. I was very close to losing my patience entirely. I did not want to “kill the messenger” so to speak. It wasn’t his fault. He was following his script and what I wanted had no answer in his mind, so he continued to repeat what the script said until I asked for a supervisor. Years ago I would have just gone to the phone shop device in hand and resolved the problem. The next time I have a problem; I will get off my rear and go to the nearest Verizon store.
There are still physical phone shops in many area malls and kiosks inside larger stores, so if it’s personal service you want, try one of them. Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile all have stores in most areas. Now I have no problem with online shopping. In fact I love it, but when something is wrong I must admit I like some face to face service. I often wonder how elderly or less patient people deal with the automated phone systems many companies now employ to field their calls. It sure as heck confuses me at times.
If you want personal service or resolve a problem with your cell phone, try one of the phone shops. It just has to be a better experience.
