Everyone is looking for ways to save money these days. When searching for the cheapest cell phone plans, the amount of information is mind boggling. Do you want a monthly plan or prepaid plan? Is the free phone worth the cost of the contract required to get it? Is a family plan the best option if you have several users? Lets face it, things are tough and everyone wants your business, so do some research and you can find the best plan for your use.

Prepaid plans are great if you do not use the service a lot. People who just want a cell phone for occasional or emergency use find that this is the most cost effective way to go. You can buy minutes according to your use and it is easy to add them via the internet or your phone. I fall into this category. I spend approximately $20.00 a month, many times less for my phone. This is great for kids. Wal-Mart has a Straight Talk phone plan that offers unlimited talk and text for $45.00 a month. There is also a straight talk plan with limited talk and text for $30.00 a month. You can get the latest phones with both of these plans.

There are certainly a few things to consider when choosing a plan. You want to know what geographical areas the plan covers. You also need to think about how you will use the phone. If it is your only phone, you will want a plan with unlimited night and weekend calls, free cell phone to cell phone calls and a substantial number of anytime minutes. Its nice to have a plan that will allow you to roll over your unused minutes.

What incentives are important to you? Do you want a free phone or extra minutes? You want the most you can get for the monthly payment you can afford.

I know all of this sounds incredibly complicated, but if you take a little time there is a wealth of information on the internet to help you make an informed decision. There are a number of sites like Billshrink.com that compare phone plans side by side. Read the offers carefully. I found several that started by saying plans as little as $10.00 a month. Indeed they do have $10.00 plans, but that does not include minutes. Those are purchased separately. A number of major carriers offer senior plans or discounts to AARP members.

As with credit cards, sometimes you can get a rate reduction simply by asking. There are many family plans offering free phones, small charges for each extra line, and free talk between families or calling circle members. Do a little research and youre sure to find the cheapest cell phone plans for you and your family.
