3G refers to third generation phones. These have to incorporate talking with media use. The 3G phones are more like little computers that just happen to have a phone included. There are a lot of 3G phone deals to choose from.
For example Verizon offers the Droid 2 by Motorola free with a plan that gives you 450 free anytime minutes, unlimited messaging and a web/data add on feature for $59.99 per month. If you go with the family plan, you get two phones and 700 free anytime minutes with the other features. This applies to new Verizon accounts. The Samsung Fascinate is another 3G phone that is $39.99 when you open a new account. You get free shipping, free Wirefly backup service for life, and 450 anytime minutes for $59.99 per month.
AT&T offers several Samsung models, Motorola, LG, and Blackberries free or $9.99 with the purchase of an AT&T plan. The free anytime minutes vary from plan to plan, but most are offering 700-900 free minutes and the majority of plans are $59.99-79.99 per month. AT&T plans include free unlimited mobile to mobile calling within the plan and roll over minutes. T-Mobile offers unlimited nights and weekend calling and in-network calling starting at $49.99 per month. Sprint has some good plans. You can choose form voice only plans or everything plans. The everything option offers unlimited messaging and voice or unlimited voice, messaging, and/or data starting at $39.99 per month. Nextel has basic plans for around $29.99 per month and their everything plan is $99.99 per month.
There are some 3G deals offered on prepaid or pay as you go plans. These do not require a contract and are an excellent idea for casual use. It seems hard to believe these days that everyone isn’t using a cell phone exclusively, but there are a few of us out there. If you are on a budget, these plans are very affordable. They are also nice for use while traveling. You are only paying for the time your phone is in use and it is very easy to add minutes right from your phone.
3G phone deals may be different in different areas of the country. When you are researching, most sites will ask you for your zip code to determine what is available in your area of coverage.
